Making Glue

 
Sometimes it's cheaper to just make your own things.  Even glue.  Yep.
 
 
To make glue I get out a little baby jar and put 2 teaspoon scoops of cornflour in it.  Then I add about 1 cm of cold water and mix.  When all the powder is thoroughly mixed in I add boiling water to fill the jar up.  And stir like crazy.
 
That's when I get the most awesome smoothest glue - just like store bought - for a fraction of the price.
 

 
 
I am considering experimenting with it to see if I can give it the long life / nice smell that also comes with a store bought glue.  Wondering what salt would do to it?  Or vanilla essence?

  5. A couple of days at room temperature. It would probably last quite a bit longer if I put it in the fridge and kept it cool. :o)

    I am making a fresh batch tomorrow morning ( we have a habitat cut and paste project going, so lots of gluing tomorrow )and I'll be adding a little salt. I'll let you all know how that goes.

  6. What a great idea! I guess you make glue like that when doing papier mache, so why wouldn't it work!

  7. Who would have thought ever about making one own glue. Is your cornflour the wheaten type or maize? Yes please do keep us updated with the extras added in.

  8. I have wheaten in the cupboard, but I could also possibly have other types as well as I have a couple different brands. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. :o)

  9. Oh, and I wanted to add that when you make it, don't worry if it looks a little runny - as it cools it will thicken. :o)
