Jonah Died

Ok, let's get one thing straight.  Jonah died.

Yes, he did.  Dead as they come.

I am so very tired of hearing grown MEN declare how Jonah did not die.  I am also exhausted from seeing the shock and defense on their faces if you dare to care to mention that he really did die.

What is it with grown men that can't get passed a little childhood brainwashing?  Are they that chlorine in the water defective?

Never mind how for the life of us Jonah could actually stay alive in the belly of a fish { whale } for 3 days and 3 nights, especially since just mere fish are devoured and dissolved in the natural process, but that my friends is a scientific proof that Jonah most certainly did die, and a given.

Today though, I want to prove it to you from the Bible.  Which would be some benefit to you - if nothing else but to secure that the Bible has all the answers.  We just have to find them.

Matthew 12

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jonah was in the belly of the whale for 3 days and 3 nights.  Don't suppose he had a ton of air with oxygen with him too.  Either that he was pretty good at holding his breath.

Seriously though,

Now, Jesus died, and went down into the belly of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights before he was resurrected.

That means he really died.  He LEFT his body.

Likewise, Jonah died and left his body too.

But you still might not believe me that he died so I thought I'd add this in here as well:

Jonah 2

King James Version (KJV)
Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,
And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

Yeah, so you MEN read your bible, real closely.  Don't get up to PREACH until you have.

  2. This post seems to have been written with a great bitterness of spirit. It is not encouraging, but rather derogatory in its address to Christian brethren. There are many points of doctrine that are not 'salvation issues' that are debated amongst the Ekklesia, and resorting to such a tone is not demonstrating the love of Christ. Christ debated the scriptures, yes, and he even called the Pharisees 'whited sepulchures' and 'of their father, the Devil', but you are not doing Christians any favours by writing with such derision in your tone. I have no disagreement with your argument, rather the way you have gone about it. I find it very affronting. At this late hour, are not the souls of the lost our primary concern? Our internal debates still need to show love and grace, not dislike and derision.

  3. Pregnancy brain speaking here. so are you saying he died in the belly of the whale and was ressurected and went on to preach to the people of ninevah? And im sorry but i agree with the second commentor. But i also think that theological debates are best left to the men. (you'll find that one in the bible too) Still love ya Deborah. God bless

  4. So if it is impossible for Jonah to survive in the belly of the whale for 3 days and 3 night with little or no oxygen; then how does a dead person pray? (Jonah2v1 KJV). If he did die in the belly of the whale, then why is no ressurection mentioned during his time in there? surely that is miraculous to warrant a mention in chapter 2. And if he did die, and theres no mention of a ressurection there or anywhere else in scripture i may as well write of chapter 3 in my kjv as a complete fabrication and cross it out. It also limits Gods power in sustaining us physicaly and otherwise in difficult circumstances, Wasnt a disciple of Jesus lowered into a pot of boiling oil? abd survived? by all accounts he should of died. no one could survive that. Except if God himself enables them to withstand all forms of testing. If Jonah died in the belly of the whale, i may as well rip the book of Jonah out,as there would be nothing miraculous about his story. And a rather pointless tale. My point is Deborah. i disagree and thats fine. im not trying to change your mind or have a go at you. you are entitled to your opinion. I have heard another person boldly proclaim they had multiple documents stating that pauls missionary journeys/ testamony was a fake. rendering important and large part of scripture pointless. Its all mans opinion designed to raise doubts in the believers mind. The devil is very crafty ya know. Love your blog Deborah and your friendship.
