It's Monday again, and with that we come to another week of Art.  Today we did the native Royal Bluebell.  It is also known as the floral emblem of the ACT here in Australia.

Yes, she really did this by herself.

My example and walk through.

Even Noah painted.

Wordly Wise 6 Supplements

Yes, it's that time again when I start gathering all my little ducks into a neat little row for the next year.  In this case I'm working on Wordly Wise Book 6.  The book is fantastic and an easy program for vocabulary, but it only has 20 lessons in it!  So, what to do with the other 20 weeks of school?  Yes, you practice the vocabulary!

And that brings us to that practice.  I make my own practice worksheets.

I've done the first portion of the supplements.  These cover Mondays and Tuesdays of the prep week.

It's an 82 page book.  { And this is just the first portion }  That's 4 pages for each lesson.
2 pages for definitions, and 2 pages to write your own sentences.
Every page is labeled with the instructions, the Grade/Book level and the lesson number.

Don't forget to pick up the first lesson in this pack for FREE.... to try out.  Just click on through the sample pictures above to where it is housed and download the preview.

And I've also completed the ABC Order worksheets as well, which as it turns out is in a separate file.  This set has 20 worksheets, one for each lesson.
Yes, so now that I've introduced my latest project be sure to keep an eye out for the remaining and final, but probably the most fun and very important portion that completes the supplements. { The cut and paste definitions }

Thanks so much for visiting.

Charlotte Math Update

The last 15 days have been a complete Math blurr.  Charlotte my fresh 6 year old started her Grade 2 Math books.

Rod and Staff Grade 2, Unit 1

Her first lesson.

Last lesson in the book.

Tomorrow she will begin Unit 2.

How does a fresh 6 year old take 15 consecutive days to romp through 40 lessons?

Currency.

That's my secret.  Each school day she is required to do a single lesson, and whatever lesson she does thereafter in the day she is given 20 cents.  Yep.  Money talks people.

Writing Elizabeth I Essays

First we start with a book.  It's an old time 1923 text from way back when.  I  LOVE  it because it lends itself so easily to outlining and writing.  It is out of print, but if you can get it, I highly recommend it and the remaining books in the series.

This essay became a 4 lesson project.  Three of those were for the reading, outlining, and writing drafts.  The last one was for proof reading and typing it up into a final.

With each sitting they would read a short chapter from the book.  Then they'd do the written work for it.

Outlines on the left, essay on the right, followed by a drawing.

Chloe { 12 }

And just like that - she was ready for a Final Draft.
We just googled 'Elizabeth I coloring pages' and copy and pasted them into her file.

Memory Verses for September Week 1

I went back and re-established Charlotte's { 6 }
Memory Card File Box.

I used the A-Z verses from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
I just printed them up - it's a one page download, t
hen cut the verses apart and glued them individually onto cards.  This made 26 cards.
Then it was time to stamp some pretties onto the sides of the cards.

The very next day we were all good to start.
She copied the verse and started the coloring.
Soon we also did the cut and paste.  Essentially, it's the verse cut apart and put back in sequence.  She really LOVED this activity.

Alternatively....
Print the plain one and print on a colored piece of paper.

If you'd like a FREE copy of this weeks verse just click the picture below.

I'll be making a FULL set to match the verses in the A-Z memory verse list.

I'll pop them HERE.

Don't forget to visit on occasion.

Art Monday - Eastern Swamp Hen

We are still doing our Native Australian Birds for Nature Study and Art.

{ The Eastern Swamp Hen }

Let's start with a general sketch.

Then we'll give it a little water colour.

Then we'll add some information about our bird.

Then all the other little chookies in the house will do like-wise.

Yes, yes, they will.

They'll remember to write something important.

And give it their personal touch.

Yes, so that's how this particular little project is coming along.

Don't forget to go back and have a look at our previous Native Birds of Australia.  I've tagged them under these headings:  Art, Australia, Bird.

We also started Native Plants of Australia too...

This one below:  The Common Heath, which is Victoria's floral emblem.

Yes, so that's what we've been doing.

Thanks for visiting.
