A FREE Spider Calendar Pack

My last post of the year.....

so I thought I would make it a freebie.....

and since we'll be doing a Spider Lapbook in January I thought that I would make another little add-on, a Spider Calendar pack.

It has 2 anchor charts in it....

It has cut and paste worksheets for the Days of the Week and Months of the Year.

 I always like to print up the Days and Months on colored paper.
Just have the children cut and paste them back into the correct order.

I've included little hand cards for the Days of the Week and Months of the Year.

and to finish off the pack I also put a set of bookmarks and the calendar fill-it-ins in there as well.

Yep, so that about wraps up the year.  Thank you so much for visiting my little blog.  Stay safe, stay true, and we'll see you early next year.

High School Subjects Self Taught

How about a book that is almost 1500 pages of information for your high schooler to self teach?

Yep, thought it might interest you, it did for me.

If you click the front piece it will take you to archive to pick a copy up.

Grade 1 Curriculum Choices 2018

Today we take a peek in to what we've pulled out for Charlotte to do for 2018.

This is a tricky year.  Tricky because they are still transitioning to reading, and it's also where I tend to throw in a lot of random worksheets in to the mix as well.  I don't want to swamp the child in too much book work though either.  I hope my internal mother instinct and balance is working at it's optimal level.

But..... I do need to start making it a little bit more formal.... especially since she's 6 now, and we've moved back into a state that requires a yearly visit by a moderator from the Education Department.  Yep, for the last 8 years I've been entirely free, but now I'll have someone looking over my shoulder at times.

* * * * * * *

For Bible...

We'll be starting with these.  Essentially, it's copywork for character qualities.  So each day she'll come along and copy one portion into her workbook.  While the work itself is from the secular book, I do keep the christian one on hand as well.

For English...

She'll finish up Learning to Read { she's almost done and only needs to complete 2 more workbooks } and she's half way through LA 1.  We'll also keep working on phonics as well.

For Reading...

We'll continue with reading the remaining stories in her Learn to Read workbooks until they are done and then we'll move over to the Bible Blessings Readers and others.  I've got so much at this level that yes, what to choose, what to choose.  I am sure to share some of it as we move through the year, stay tuned.  :)

For Math...

She'll pick up half way through this book and continue on....

For History...

We'll jump to the next book in the series.  This will also cover Geography because there is a map for pretty much every single lesson in the book.  :)

For Spelling....

She'll just continue along in this book.

For Science....

We'll be starting the year off with a unit on Spiders.  I imagine it will take us about 3 - 4 weeks and after that we'll move into something else.  I have a BAJILLION science resources at this grade level, so it's not a matter of what to include, but rather, what are we not going to include.

For our Spider unit I have these 4 books pulled out and ready to go.  However, I also have a number of short passages and illustrations galore in our collective works to peruse as well.

Art...

She'll either be joining in with the girls with the following resource and other projects that they'll do, OR I'll be finding her a ton of directed drawing.  Either way, Monday afternoons will be for Art as usual.

Looks like a lot for a little 6 year old, doesn't it?

But we can tweek it to accommodate.  That's the beauty of homeschool, being able to meet more closely to the child's needs and abilities.

I can't wait to see all the fluffies that get added in too.

As long as we don't get bogged down with too much book work we should have time for fluffies, and it's the fluffies that make life's memories and fun and probably the most learning.

Yes, so thank you for visiting, looking forward to our new school year journey.

Grade 6 Curriculum Choices 2018

Today I show you what we have for Phebe, who is 10 and will be 11 this coming year.

Bible:
And memory verse work as well.  :)

English:

For Math she'll continue working from this book.

and of course we have some little extra helps:

For History she's decided to go with MOH II.

So I printed up the coloring pictures for her.....

And some timeline pictures for her exercise book....

and some timeline pictures for her timeline book....

She'll probably read SOTW II, and The Discovery of New Worlds sometime during the year since they both fall into this time category as well.

For spelling we'll be using Noah Websters Speller.  Each day I'll dictate 10 words and those will be the words she'll work on for the day.  I have a spelling form that we use where they practice copying and syllables on it for the words they need to learn to spell.  We'll also be adding spelling and syllabification rules throughout the year as well.

For Science she'll be working on Rod and Staff 7.

For Art we'll have these Australian Birds to do, but we also want to put our hands to some other fun things along the way as well....

For LOTE we'll continue on with Greek and French unless of course a miracle happens and I get a request for Latin.....

For geography we'll do some lessons from the following resource, it is highly American, so we won't do them all, but yes, we'll do the ones that are applicable or useful to us.

For Vocabulary we'll use Wordly Wise 6.

I've got all my supplements done and good to go.

Reading will continue along the same lines as usual.  She'll pick a book, I'll pick a book, and we'll just keep reading books.  I always keep a running book list here on the blog..... so if you're interested in seeing what books they've read.... to the end....just look up there on the menu bar and find the Book List tab.

I'll also be adding in some Australian studies as regular Wednesday afternoon activities.

* * * * * * *

Hannah { 8 turning 9 next year } will pretty much be doing the exact same thing except her Math is a book higher and her Science is a book lower.... other than that, I think it is identical.

Thanks so much for your visit.  :)

Grade 8 Curriculum Choices 2018

Yep, it's that time of year again....  where I get to stress over what curriculum each child should have and do.....  and this year Chloe will be in Grade 8....  those years go so quickly.
First up, Bible.  We're continuing on with this particular series because she really likes it, and I like it too.  At some point during the year she'll jump to Book 8.

Additionally, she'll also continue memorizing scripture as well { not shown } with her little card box etc...

For English she'll be using Christian Light Education LA 5.  It is heavy on the grammar.  We'll also supplement with other odds and ends as the year progresses, but this is what will be in the dailies.

For Math we are going to back track a little so that we can build up those foundations and confidence.

For History this year I am going to let Chloe entirely detour with a school text book, yep, slacker that I am.  The up side is that she might end up writing LESS essays??  I dunno, we'll see how it all plays out.

And for Geography - another school text book....

For Science we're going to put our hands to Apologia....

And Bob Jones University for Literature....

For LOTE we'll continue to dip our hands into two different languages.....  French and Greek.  Still no Latin on the horizon, alas, but I am not ready to give up hoping, just yet.

For Art we'll probably put our hand in for a number of different things, but as a series, or fall back, we'll have our Australian Birds drawing that we'll continue on with this year.

For Vocabulary Chloe will be doing 'Get to the Root of It'.  It's a Greek and Latin root word program.  My only indecision is should we do a lesson over 1 or 2 weeks??

And for Reading we'll continue along with our random selections... so long as she's reading whole novels I shall be very happy and content.  Of course I'll let her pick some, and I'll pick some.

Australian studies will also be included on Wednesday afternoons.  I'm not entirely sure on the pathway for that, do we just read and enjoy the journey or do we wreck it with a hundred worksheets?  Any suggestions?

Yes, so this is the basic set up that we have for Chloe this year.  Can't wait to see all the little fluffies that we add along the way to help break the monotony.  And I hope we've chosen well for where she's at.  :)

My Mum Died

My mum died today { I'm actually back tracking from the future because I don't think that I could of posted this on the actual day. }

She was 77 years old.
I took this a couple of days before she passed.

It's the weirdest thing though...

because

My dad died back in May....

and well,

let me just show you, it's easier that way...

My dad had turned 70 and then 24 days later he died.

My mum had turned 77 and then 24 days later she died.

She's actually 7 years older than my dad.

My dad died on the 21st of May { divisible by 7 }

My mum died on the 7th of December.

24 days = 3.5 weeks.....

so his 3.5 weeks and her 3.5 weeks = 1 week { 7 days }

You
just can't make this stuff up,

and I didn't even have to go looking for any of this,

it was just that obvious.

And then...

Since both of them died 24 days after their birthdays

2 + 4 = 6 { the number of man }

* * * * * * *

So, mum will have her funeral this Friday.

* * * * * * *

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 6:40

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Wordly Wise 6 Definitions - the Cut and Paste Version

Last year I had AWESOME success with Wordly Wise and doing supplemental worksheets, but to tell you the truth we have also played with some of it even before then { you can see a ton of Wordly Wise in my spelling freebies section }.  Anyway, so for sure, and definite, I was going to make another set for Wordly Wise 6 for this up and coming year.

Today - I finally did the cut and paste definitions pack for Wordly Wise Book 6.  It came to 85 pages and 80 of those pages are printables for your students.  Yep.  And it's on $ALE.
Wordly Wise Book 6 Definition Supplements

I managed to take 20 lessons and turn them into a 40 week program.

Wordly Wise Book 6 Written Supplements

So now the whole set is available to carry you through the YEAR.

Science Interactive Spider Lapbook

Yay, I finally finished my Spider lapbook.  And can I just tell you - wow, I even impressed myself.  Every time I make one, they improve.

Haven't had time to do the usual photo shoot, but I do have a quick video walk through on how I put it all together.

There are plenty of options available for different parts inside the pack as well for the cloze, writing, pockets, vocabulary etc...  but this is what I put in it for Charlotte for when January arrives and when we resume school.

Thanks so much chookies.

Recognizing Numerals

Here's a little numeral matching activity.

Perfect for your preschoolers.

I'll be giving it to Noah until it's mastered.  If he gets bored I could always change the theme, but yes, let's start with this one!

It's basically a game board and matching numerals on a Bee theme. {I needed to pick a theme, and since I had the clipart, I chose those.}

Just click on any picture to download.

Just print....

and cut out and play.....

Thanks for dropping by.

A Spider Poem

This morning I found an awesome poem to put inside my Spider Lapbook - which I have now finished writing, but still need to assemble, hence its non-availability at the moment.  I just need to assemble and take all the photos and video footage of the assembly before I make it available in the store.  You understand.  I am sure.

We are still unpacking and I haven't found the A3 paper or my tripod yet.

However, I just wanted to do a quick little share here of the poem that I've included.

There is a second page - with the remaining portion of the poem and a little fly on it too.

At any rate, thanks so much for visiting.  Just click the poem above to down load it.

A New Dining Table

Sometimes there's real life.

In this case, one of this weeks real life happened to be a dining table.

We needed to buy a new one since we moved and we didn't bring one with us.

Here's the new one:

We upgraded to a 10 seater since we actually physically need 8 places, so that leaves 2 spots for visitors.

Truth is though, we'll just pull out the camping table/chairs if we need more seating room for a dinner party.  :)

But in the mean time I figure, a bigger dining table equals a bigger school room - we do school at the dining table.
