Tot School Update

Well, my little cutie patootie Charlotte dolly has been super busy with life this week, oh and with a little school too.  Today I showed her / a / and gave her a little worksheet just for her.

I just happen to snap this photo at an odd time.  Ha ha ha ha.

I don't think for one second she'll remember the letter sound at this point, but she did a pretty good job at naming a couple of things on the worksheet.  :o)

I figure if she can get the basic alphabet down by the time she is 3 - we'll be in good running speed.  No rush, and if it doesn't happen, doesn't really matter.  We'll get to it one day.  I just figure that it's doable if I compare her to the other children in the family.  Don't worry, I'm not going to do a competitive comparing journey.  I'm just using it to gauge what could be possible for her.

Two Little Chickee Birds

This week Charlotte will work on 'Two Little Chicky Birds'.

Charlotte really loved todays song and craft.  There was a LOT of interest from her.

She can't really color just yet, so I had to help her.

Phebe and Hannah also decided that they'd like to do one.

At first offer Chloe thought, nah, not her thing, but after seeing the other girls with theirs she decided to do one too.  Just good that I had photocopied enough for all of them.  :o)

Sing and Play

This week I added some very awesome and super cool new educational resources to my fun little blackline masters collection. I was totally happy impressed with how quickly RIC Publications dispatched my order this week too. Awesome~!!   I placed my order on Sunday night and by Wednesday afternoon I had my package of goodies sitting on my school table ready for enjoyment. They came all the way from the other side of Australia.

Today I'll just show you one of the new books that I got.  :o)  You'll have to wait to see and hear about the others.  This one is very specifically for Charlotte - nearly 2, but I think Hannah - 4 is also going to get a lot out of it too.

{ Nursery Rhymes - Sing and Play }

There are 25 sing and play nursery rhymes in this particular book.  Each rhyme has 4 pages dedicated to it.  In the back of the book is a list of illustrated flashcards for photocopying, one for each rhyme.  Total pages:  114.

Each nursery rhyme follows a set pattern like this:  The first page has the music and ideas to do with the rhyme.  { Yep, I actually got to play this little tune on the keyboard - ha ha ha, and yep, totally impressed myself with that.  I do have to give a bit of credit to Adventus for that though }  The second page is a reproducible of the rhyme illustrated, so that the children can sing and colour.

The very first nursery rhyme is 'Open, Shut them'.  A simple hand singalong.

On the third page they give "cut and craft" instructions.  Then on the 4th page there is a reproducible craft activity.

After introducing the nursery rhyme I got out the craft activity.  After coloring for a short while we then cut out the pieces and taped the face to the top of a paper plate.

And the mouth to the inside.  Yeah, I never knew teeth came in purple and blue, but there you have it, apparently they do.  :o)  I think they look way better than the standard white.

3 of the 4 crafts that got done.  Chloe was a bit late to it all.  I guess she had to see what was going on before she wanted to join in.

I stuck Charlottes copy of the rhyme in an exercise book.  That way we'll be able to revisit the rhymes as we go along, and it'll turn into quite a nice little song book by the end of it all as well.

Have you ever heard of RIC Publications?  They're an Australian educational company.  I can't wait to do some more show and tell from this company.

Thanks for visiting.

Today I'll be linking up with:

I hope you will join us.

Tot School - Working on a Tray

This month Charlotte turns TWO.  These last couple of years have gone quick haven't they?

Her current and favourite saying is, "ohhhhhh".

Charlotte with her TRAY for school.

{ Counting 2 }

Animal:  Elephant

It's a pretty big tray.  I like that.

{ Counting 2 }

Animal:  Giraffe

We'll probably be working on the numbers 1 and 2 for a couple of months.  No rush.

* * * * * * *

This morning little Miss comes in from the kitchen with a cup in one hand, and the remainder of the soy sauce bottle in the other.  I kid you not.  True story.  Apparently she wanted a drink, and thought it looked good, obviously.  So I quickly grabbed my camera for show and tell.  :o)

I really like the idea of doing little hands on projects with her.  I even ordered a couple of preschool black line masters with craft activities for the alphabet to use. Can't wait for those to arrive.  Pinterest is also going to be an awesome place for ideas as well.

I'll be using the tray as much as possible to try and teach her to work within a certain area.  Nothing worse than having an activity spread over half the room, so yeah, hoping that the tray will minimise that happening.

Thanks for visiting.

Tot School

Charlotte is almost 2.  Almost.  She has taken to mimicking the girls doing school work - to some degree.  So I think that I might have to be a little more thoughtful about giving her some "educational" experiences to help encourage her along and satisfy her want of school.

With that in mind I decided that today was the day.  Yep, I was going to read a book just for her.  Our goal was that she had to remain on my lap for the entire duration of the story.

{ The Tale of Peter Rabbit }

It's not a very long book, so all good there.

 It also has very nice pictures to look at as we read.

At the end of the story I tried to get her to say, "rabbit," and "Mr McGregor".  Both were declined.

The good news about Tot School is that I might actually get some show and tell for the remainder of the alphabet in my category list in the next year or so.  :o)

{ I envision Tot School being for the age of 2.  Preschool for age 3.  Kindy for age 4-5.  Grade 1 for age 5-6. }

What books are you reading your 2 year old?  What do you recommend for a 2 year old?  Do share.

Thanks for visiting.
