Week 6

The weeks just wizz by don't they?

This week we continued with phonogram work for Phebe.

Phebe asked me for some extra "fun" school work, so I gave her this to do.

Phebe finished her LA 105 book.  I almost cried when she forgot when to use oi / oy.  She lost a lot of marks for things I was hoping that she had thoroughly learnt and would remember.

Chloe continued to learn more about paragraphs and outlining.  This week she looked at parallel construction.  And all this work on paragraphs / outlines is really starting to pay off BIG time.  I have noticed that when she is required to write a paragraph now that it is coming much EASIER. I have also noticed her attitude to it has improved immensely as well.  I guess having a skill gives not only the ability to do something but also the confidence too.

 

For History this week we marched right on through SOTW III - Chapter 9.

The girls used the coloring page from the companion guide to trace a picture to go with their copywork.

 I had to laugh when I saw Phebes eye.

Hannah cheered me up with this:

Can you believe that my 3 year old has done 3 workbooks from this course already?  She sounds out words so well.  I am always delighted when hearing her work out the words.

Last but not least, Little Miss discovered the keyboard and has been having a heap of fun with it.  In fact ALL the children have been having turns at making "noise".

Now that we've done our first 6 weeks of school it's time to have a couple of weeks off.  So that's what we'll be doing over the next fortnight.  I'll still be blogging though.  I might miss a couple of days, with family visiting and all, but I'll still try to find some things to chat about.  :o)

Week 5

I always wonder what to put up each week and usually find that I have cull a bit of show and tell.  I never know what is interesting and what isn't - since I'm biased and I love to see my own children's progress and work.

Chloe played one of my 2x games.  We also made a skip counting by 2 strip to add to it all.  The abacus is in the background for her to work out the answer if she gets stuck.

She also moved over to try out fractions for the 2 times tables.

 

What would HOMEschool be without home made bracelets and rings?  The girls often make crowns, earrings, and accessories.

Phebe worked hard on reviewing her multiple phonograms again this week.  We are slowly working through them.  I'm currently using her LA course as the springboard and following what they are presenting.   When they move on we'll go back and find the ones we missed.

Phebe also started the next book in her Singapore Maths curriculum.

I've really tried to work with Chloe a bit more this week on her Spelling and English.

We started off with a pre-test.  I always start the week this way to show me what she already knows.

This week I added some ABC Order - very specifically tailored to her spelling list.

We continue to have a day where we try the words in cursive.

  

And of course we did the usual in between days spelling work.

I won't know how much progress we've made until we do the Dictation  later today.  Here's to hoping for success~!!  { At least 12/15 correct would be good }

And just for fun, here's a couple of eggs.  Our little girl chookies have started laying.  Can't wait for them all to be on board with that.  :o)

Friday Hannah Update

 

Wow, are you in for a treat today.  Lots of show and tell.

Only 1 more week of formal sit down school and we, my friends will be on our gigantic school holidays.

Now having said that, I do have to confess that I totally imagine us still doing some "schooly" things during those 8 glorious weeks.  I tell you this so that you know I'll still be blogging and doing show and tell.  :o)   ( In particular I'll be doing a whole stack of posts about the curriculum we'll be using next year. )  Back to the holiday part:  English, Maths, and History will be taking a serious break.  I imagine crafts will still be on the table, and nature study may get a chance to shine.  :o)

 

This week little Miss Hannah jumped another level.  We began this book:

 

 

There is something really wonderful hearing a child "sound" out their words - all by themselves - and getting it right.

 

 

She not only sounded out these words but could also sound out and read, "see me eat.  see me read".  Pretty impressive.

 

 

We also added some new flash cards to our pocket chart, and revised last weeks words.

 

 

And we tried this activity again, keeping last weeks words and adding this weeks words.

 

 

 

This week we added ANOTHER 6 phonograms as well. 

 

 

We also pulled out a new resource that I got FREE on TpT.  Pumpkin playdough mats for counting.  We didn't use playdough though since I already had some laminated pumpkins that I made from my sizzix.  It's not free at the moment but hay, what's 50cents?  Just click Hannah in the photo to check out where I got them from.

 

 

 

Another new activity we tried this week was Read and Cover.  I just made up this little grid with her words and punched out a few scallop circles.

 

As she reads each word she covers it up.  Simple and quick but effective for revision and practice.

Hannah also did some more practice with writing.  These particular pages are a personal spin off from my usual book on TpT.  So they are a little different where the letters in the boxes are.

 

 



 

 

And I also bought a really cool little book for some maths practice.    Basically the child matches up the numbers with the math fact and it turns into a picture. To go and check them out on my friends blog just click the photo. 

 

 

 

Well, I think I'll stop here because well, I think this is probably enough show and tell for Hannah this week and I haven't even got to Chloe, Phebe, or Charlotte.
