Charlotte Started a New Book

Today Charlotte started reading a new book.

I love how they separate the syllables for easy sounding.

and she also started a new lapbook on Penguins.

Before we got to the cloze there was a passage that I read to her.

Charlotte LTR

I just need to pop this somewhere for reference, and the month of December had some post space.

Charlotte is now finished with 103.  Yay!!

She scored 97%.  Super happy with that.

A couple of items that were in the book that got her to that end:

She also copies phrases and we do dictation.  Yes.  Dictation.  I call words, she writes them down.

Catch you later chookies.

Week 18

This week Charlotte started 102.

I added some more little fish words for her to practice with.

The older girls did some more random worksheet activities.

This week our little pigeon bird { wild } that sat and lived outside my kitchen window ledge every day got attacked by a cat, and so it succumbed to it's injuries and died.  It was always at risk, I suppose, being loose but so closely available to random cats passing through.  It broke all the girls hearts.  It had been an amazing pet - even though it was completely wild.  Very tame for wild.  So tame I could pick it up.  We fed it and in return it roamed the backyard and blended itself nicely into the family.

How I often find the girls at meal times, particularly in the mornings at breakfast.

What I'm reading to Miss 4 this week.
The language is as of the days of old, where they actually used decent academic vocabulary.  This has caused me to love the book exceedingly.

Bible by Miss 9.

and yeah, this afternoon hoping to get the girls out to the local homeschool get together!

Thanks for visiting.

Week 3

We've come to the end of Week 3.

Here are some highlights from this week.

Hannah ( 3y9m ) finished up LTR 102

Here's her Review:

She does awesome at sounding the words out.

Then she got 97%.

We started to do some REAL maths from her Rod and Staff Grade 1 maths book.  She's done a number of pages since this was taken.

Hannah also did some spelling.  I just pick out the words/phrases that I want her to work on and put them in an exercise book for her to copy.

We did this activity.  I have a little plastic freezer box that I put the current cards and letter pieces in.  That way she doesn't really have to go digging all that far to get them together.  Then when we are ready I'll just swap over the cards and letters for new ones.

* * * * * * * *

Chloe 7 did particularly well this week with her spelling.

She did one day with cursive for her list words.  Then on other days just did her list in the normal style and format of list, then added two sentences.  She added some pictures of her own accord, which I thought was a nice touch.

On another day - same format, and two sentences.  Again she added pictures for the sentences.

Phebe 5 doesn't do spelling until she gets to Language Arts 106.  She's just finished 104.

I suppose I could give her some spelling in the same format that I give Hannah, but I just haven't gotten around to it this year - yet.

Now even though she isn't doing much on the spelling front she is totally kicking butt in the maths department.

We're just finishing up week 3 but in her maths book she is up to week 5.  Yep, a couple of weeks ahead.

Phebe scored 79% on the final test in Language Arts 104,

and she had these as well.

A project that I thought might be fun for the girls, but once I had done the model thought, no way, they currently don't have the scissor skills or patience for was:

So, I'll have to put this idea away for a rainy day in the future.

Thanks for visiting.

Week 1

Well, we've come to the end of our first week of back to school.

This week we had our noses in these:

Chloe and Phebe did Art with watercolours.

We also did chapter 2 from SOTW III

We also read from The World of Capt. John Smith - and it worked out perfect for additional information on Philip II and William the Silent.

Hannah started LTR 102

Hubby was very surprised at how well she was reading and writing.

She also did some counting.

Thanks for visiting.

Hannah the Kindergartener

Little Miss Hannah ( 3y8m ) has now finished her FIRST Learn To Read module, and she scored:

Yep, she got 100%.

We also bought Hannah her very first card box.  She was totally excited about that.

I put some cards in there and put two dividers in as well.  I used a couple of elephant cut outs for the dividers.

And so we added a spot for her LTR things, and one for her Commands of Christ cards.

Thanks for visiting.

Friday Update

I've had quite a few new followers join us - thank you!! so I thought that I would do a catch me up on who I am, who we are as a family, and what this blog is all about.  :o)

Me, myself, and I.   Who am I?

I am Deborah.  I'm a stay at home homeschooling mum with an addiction fondness for paper and school stuff.  :o)  I also like to make the odd early elementary resource.
I live in Australia with my beautiful family.  My husband Adrian and I have been married for 19 years and we have 8 children + 2.

Here are my current 3 main full time students.  The ones I usually talk about and do show and tell for here on the blog.

We have Hannah 3y8m on the left, Chloe 7y in the middle, and Phebe 5 on the right.
Hannah does Kindergarten, Chloe is just about to embark on Grade 3, and Phebe is half way through Grade 1.

Here are my two grandsons who also live with us.  Kadafi is 3 and Letrell is almost 2.  Kadafi takes quite an interest when Hannah is doing her school work and often wants to join in.

I am hoping to find photos of Master 15 and Master 16.  Here's to hoping.  :o)

Might be harder to do than I think. Mmmmm - where's the camera?

My 18 and 23 year olds are all grown up and have gone out into the big wide world.

Edited to add:

I feel so bad, I forgot about the baby.

This is Charlotte - she's one, and can walk now.  She also whines the word "mum" like a siamese cat constantly.  It is SUPER cute.  :o)  My baby is now a toddler.

* * * * * * *

I mostly keep this blog as a way of documenting some of the things that we do for homeschooling.  I like to do a fair amount of show and tell.  I also like to share worksheets and things that I make, and things of interest as they pop up.

This week we are technically still on holidays, BUT that doesn't stop us from doing the odd schooly thing.  No sir, it does not.

Chloe read a couple of chapters from next years reader:

I also had her review her Days of the Week and Months of the Year.  Something that she really does need to work on, still.

Phebe tried out some number / maths work for me.

I also let her try out Singapore Maths 1a book 2 as well.

The Base 10 blocks got a good workout in our house this week.  Awesome happy that I got a set, they are heaps fun.  Well, the girls think they are fun.  :o)

Hannah started Learning to Read by Christian Light Education.  This is the 3rd time I will have used this course.  I absolutely LOVE it.  It truly has made my life so much easier.  Easier is much more fun.  :o)

Here she practiced writing / d / but I do not teach her to write the letter as they do.  I teach her to write the body FIRST - it helps to avoid inducing dyslexic tendencies.  Long story, short.

The letter / s / is a pretty good challenge letter.

I am also giving her practice pages from their black line master booklets which I also have.  That way we can "test" her out so to speak before she does her real run in the workbook.

And since they already introduce "sight" words here is how we looked at them this week.  I added some other words as well - since we also have our noses in Rod and Staff Reading 1 too.  Hannahs up to Lesson 8 in their reader already.  I think that I might need to go to Curriculum Junkies Anonymous.

Flash cards.
Making words.

Wow, a super long post from me today.  :o)

This week I'm linking up with:

and

I do hope that you will join us~!!

Thanks for visitng.  :o)
