Charlotte is 7 now......

Charlotte is now a brand new fresh 7 year old, so I thought I'd do a journal entry for where she is currently in her Math.

Rod and Staff Grade 3, lesson 98.

Doing Division.....

for her 6x tables on top, and a mixture on bottom.

Then we continue to do some more in fraction form, and of course a few written questions as well.

So yep, that is where Charlotte is up to these days.  

Laminating Day

Today I had a laminating day....

I had my stash of printables all good to go....

Surprisingly, it didn't take as long as I thought it would, but I was solid on getting them cut asap as they came out of the laminator.

Birds and their eggs.  It's supposed to be 3 part cards, but I decided that we should only cut them to two to begin with.  They are absolutely gorgeous, and I've already had a lot of interest from the children about them.

Just making the most of the laminating and preschool stuff, since Noah is the last baby - and I won't need them after him.

Montessori Multiplication

Something new that I thought we'd try out:

{ Montessori Multiplication }

It has the same set up as nomenclature cards.

They do do them a little different from what I am used to though.  They say, "10 taken 6 times" where I would normally teach, "6 groups of 10".  Little Miss didn't have any problem though.

And in the same download they also included clip cards as well.

There were actually quite a lot of varied resources included, but yes, these are the ones that I printed and laminated for a bit of use.

Some of the pages I'll just print and then we'll use.

Charlotte Officially Starting Grade 3 Math

It's is now official....

Charlotte has started Grade 3 Math.  She's still 6 though.

Today she started her 5x and 10 x multiplication cards.

I'm off to raid the cupboards for other multiplication helps.

Times Tables Mini Flip Books

     You know, you can never really have too many different resources in your educational backpack.  Ok, maybe you can; but if you're like me - you'll always be adding those little bits and pieces to help make learning fun and enjoyable.

     Today I made a set of Times Tables Mini Flip Books - in an Australian Animal theme.  Then I gave them to the girls to check out.  Instant fun.  They loved them.  { I figured that they'd be very handy for when Phebe and Hannah start learning their times tables in February - and since we'll also be looking at a lot of Australian stuff next year, I thought that it would be cool to do it all in an Australian Animal theme.}

I made a cute little cover page as well:

I even added a photo walk through too.

Inside the book are the 12 x tables - each page has 3 copies of the table.  Each table also features an Australian Animal too.

Yes, you'll probably need a guillotine to cut them, if not, you might need to buy one. :o)

I popped them in my store for $2.00.

Should I do a division set as well?

Oh, and if Australian Animals aren't really your theme, just email me, and I'll see if there's another theme that I can work them into.

Teaching Times Tables

I just wanted to share a little more about how I'm teaching times tables in our home these days.

There's a lot to be said, and praised, for flash cards and all that, but what should you do to START the process?

Well, they'll need modelling, they'll need the ANSWERS up front. Yep, surprise.  They'll need to know what they're supposed to be learning.

Then they can tuck them away into their little memory train.

I took a plain piece of paper and measured up 3 lines to separate the page into 4's.  Then I use it as a photocopy master to run off as many as I need.

I just write in whatever work they need to memorise.  In our case this weeks work involved the 7x tables.

In like manner I'll be able to add fractions and the other form of division in due time.

Then..........

after all that, you can flash them with cards that don't have the answer.

  

Skip Count Frogs { freebie }

I dunno about you, but I have this thing for skip counting, especially since we have to learn the multiplication tables.  I just figure that this is going to help make it a heap easier.

So.............. I also use these:

It only goes up to the 7 x tables - because that's all we've needed up until this point, but I'll add the 8x and 9x soon - just waiting till we need them { or I find some motivation }.

Multiplication Flip Book { freebie }

Today I have the multiplication flip books { I have no idea what else to call them } that I've started using with the girls for quick practice.

It's not finished - yet, but I thought I'd share them with you anyway.

Basically, this is how one use's them:

1.  Print the pages out.

2.  Fold them long ways

{ so you can only see the multiplication questions. }

3.  Just follow the line around for the answers,

if you need them.

Have the child call out:  2 x 1 = and then the answer.  If they get stumped, they can just follow the lines around to get the answer.  Just continue down - going through all the multiplication questions for that table.

Well, I've been busy getting all my ducks in a row for when school resumes, and for some reason I've added some more multiplication, this time in the form of some games.

 

 

 

I've actually put games in there for multiplication, division, and fractions.

3 x Multiplication Tables

 

There are only a couple of more weeks left for holidays here for us and then we'll be back to school full time.

 

I am really hoping that Chloe can pick and up and learn her 2x, 5x, and 3x tables this coming year.  We started earlier in the year, but we didn't spend as much time on it as I thought we might.

 

I've been busy getting these packs ready to help her learn.

 

Here's a sampling of what's in this 3x pack.

 

 

I have 4 sets of cards with answer cards too.  2 for the timestables - one goes one way, the other the other way.  1 for division, and 1 for fractions.  Yep, division and fractions included.

There are greater and less than matts in the pack as well.

One of the most important parts, I think, are these set of cards - A5 that model and show exactly what multiplication is about.  2 cards to a page.  After printing, just laminate and cut out.

 

And if color is too much, not a problem, just print ALL the cards in black and white on colored paper, or have the children color in their own.

 

 

All up the pack has 60 pages.

It contains several math centers.

Note:  I am going to upgrade the 2x Bee themed multiplication packet soon to match this pack.  It seems the more I work on things the bigger and better they get as I go along.  That also means more work with upgrading other similar previous packs.  If you need it done sooner than later, just send me a reminder email and I'll speed it up.  :o)
