Charlotte Starting a New Lapbook on Knights

Charlotte started a new lapbook today called, 'Knights'.

Our first piece.....

The inside:

It's done by Homeschooling in the Woods.

It will compliment SOTW II quite nicely.

Working on Charlotte's Medieval Timeline

Since we were taking a week off school I thought, now is the time, that I'd inject a small side detour for 10 mins so that this particular activity, which is normally overlooked and forgotten, could be started.  

I found the figures through Ambleside Online.

End of May Update on Charlotte { 6y 9m }

Here's where Charlotte was roughly by the end of May.  She's currently in Grade 1 according to the public schedule, but as you'll see, homeschooling has allowed a little more wiggle room to accommodate her more appropriately.

{ Bible: }

Charlotte has continued with her character copywork and is now at the end of Creativity.

{ Math }

In the maths department Charlotte is making exceptional gains.

As of posting this particular photo, Charlotte is actually past the 40th lesson and has started official multiplication in all earnest.

{ Reading } 

She is thoroughly enjoying reading her Rod and Staff Nurture reader.  There has been a hidden blessing in not doing too much in the way of Bible Stories with her previously to this.  As she reads each story for herself.... she is scandalised, captivated, entirely intrigued by the content of each story as she goes on through.  Not having those basic Bible story backgrounds already - it has shocked her at some of the content, and thus kept her completely interested in reading.

Here's a recent story that she's read.  Yep, this is considered Grade 1.  The story actually goes over to the next page.  She reads these out loud to me so that if there is any need for help or correction I am right there to address any problem immediately.

{ Science } 

We're having some down time with Science and keeping it light with a little detour on the Water Cycle.  I'll be looking to start a new topic soon though.

{ Penmanship }

Another thing that Charlotte has been regularly attending to this month was cursive handwriting.

{ History } 

We also continue with SOTW II.  I've moved it to Fridays so that we can be free to spend that read aloud time on Mondays and Wednesdays on another History book.

And of course she is still working largely from Rod and Staffs Phonics and Reading workbooks.

Spotlight on Castles

One of the little read alouds that I've read with Charlotte for her Middle Ages course this year.

It's an older book, so I don't know if it is still available.

But I loved that it had beautiful labelled illustrations.

It also had some photos of REAL castles towards the end of the book as well.

Happy Mail Day

Today I got some happy mail.

I got a new Henty for the shelves!  This one is printed by Dover, but for us internationals we can purchase them easily through bookdepository.  It is the story of Wulf the Saxon.  I am planning on reading it to Charlotte as soon as we are done with William the Conqueror. 

This is the year that Charlotte is doing Medieval, and I am hoping to get as many read aloud books from that time frame done as I can.

Additionally, I also picked up this coloring book as well.

I keep eyeing off a lot of their coloring books actually, but yes, cost and postage and all that.

Each person would easily make a single lesson on their own.  Plenty to color and there is also a passage about the person and their inventions included.

Well, I'm off to peruse these lovely additions.

And hopefully get the remainder of the school day concluded as well.

William the Conqueror

What I am currently reading to Charlotte { 6 } as our read aloud.  This is the year we are doing Medieval History.

It is a FREE book from online.  Technically I had to print it out and staple it myself, but I don't mind.  The story itself was free and formatted very nicely.

More Memories of Charlotte

I need to document more memories for Charlotte of her school work, so this is where I'm putting them.  :)

She has now started her last Unit for Grade 2 Math......

Plenty of carrying and borrowing....

And because the above Math curriculum is American and we are in Australia, I just swapped out the currency in the book for an Australian currency activity center instead.

A Free History Book on France

Today I have a { FREE } History book on France for you.

60 separate chapters, and 458 pages.

Starting from Clovis, in 481, all the way to the signing of the Armistice in 1918.

It has beautiful illustrations throughout.

Week 8

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the weeks go.

This week we did another Van Gogh.

Today in the biography Christine and Vincent break up.  It was a sad moment, but probably for the best.  He needs the money for painting and models and well, she's got a smoking and drinking problem amongst the other things.  He never has enough money to pull them through each month, and she keeps ending up having to go and stay with her mother.  Not to mention the additional character flaw in that she has no problem with sleeping with other men for money.  Now, it is true she's been nice and clean since she's been with Vincent { well we hope }, but yeah, not exactly the type of woman you'd take home to mother.

Charlotte did the letter { r } for rabbit for craft this week.  She totally has this letter down, but she needed a craft for her alphabet book that we are building.

She's turned into quite the little student.  She loves doing "school."

In particular she's been very diligent with her book work.

Making Castles

Sometimes it's fun to just do crafts.

* * * * * * *

Gather yourself some empty boxes, and toilet rolls.
 

Open them up, turn them inside out, and reseal.



Cut your toilet rolls.

Glue/Tape them all together and PAINT.

We added a little draw bridge, and flags to it as well.

This project was easy, and helped to fill in a little holiday time.  :o)
