Butterfly Jigsaws

Do you remember those Bird jigsaws that I showed you a couple of weeks ago?  Yes, guess what?  I found a boxed set of Butterflies by the same company at K-Mart.

A bargain buy for only $5.

They actually show you what the butterflies look like assembled on the back of the pack.

So the hubby and I sat down and did a few while we had a chat about life.

I always like jigsaws.

They are a nice way to get calm and relaxed.

Bird Jigsaws

This weekend I decided that I wanted to relax a little, so I got out a boxed set of jigsaws on birds and treated myself to some quiet time.

These jigsaws came from K-Mart here in Australia.  There are 500 pieces in total.   It cost $8.00 for the box, pretty good value really, I thought.

On the back of the box it has a picture of all the birds in the pack.  This would make it quite educational - teaching the basic colors of the birds and their names.

I didn't do all of them, but here are the ones that I did do.

Can't wait for my girls to try them out as well.

Very relaxing.  Loved taking some quiet time.

A World Map Jigsaw Puzzle

I am a firm believer in keeping jigsaws in the house for children, and for big children too by the way.  They are great little educational tools and can often be found rather cheaply too I must say.  Today's puzzle would be ideally suited for your primary aged children.

This jigsaw comes from K-Mart with a very decent $5 price tag.

The pieces are pretty large, and therefore makes a nicely good sized floor puzzle.

This one in particular is a World Map.

There is a LOT of show and tell on this puzzle.

And little Australia is there too. One of the things that I liked are the colourful illustrations.  The illustrations in particular are matched to the country that they sit on, so this makes for a lovely educational resource as well.

K-Mart is a good place to pick up cheap but useful jigsaw puzzles.

Not Doing School

School you do when you are not doing school with the 3 year old.

I just want to interject here with my amazement at how many FREE things are on the net these days.  The market is flooded with freebies and school related materials.  Well, I feel flooded because I see so much stuff.  I get something new everyday.  Yep, every day.

This week Hannah did a couple of jigsaws.

A sequencing activity.

Counting to 10.

We pulled out a couple of these to do again too.

And Hannah and I worked on doing this jigsaw too.  Ok, this one wasn't free, but it only cost me $2 I think - or was it $1?  Either way, super duper cheap~!!

And as usual she also spent some time over at starfall.com as well.

Thanks for visiting.

Wooden Jigsaws

Today I want to show you how I store our wooden jigsaws.

I keep them all in an easy access plastic tub with individual bags.  That way the children just grab ONE jigsaw at a time and they don't get all the pieces mixed up together.   This style of storage also makes it less likely that pieces will go missing too. When they are finished they just put it back into the bag and pop it back into the tub.

They sit nicely stacked in the tub in such a way that it is very easy for the children to flick through them to see/find the one that they want to do.

500 Piece Tiger Jigsaw

As some of you know the house is full of small children.  Six of them are under the age of 7, to be exact.  So it's a wise sort of thing to HIDE away somewhere where little eyes can't see, and little hands can't touch when you want to do a reasonable sized jigsaw.  Once seclusion has been secured you can relax and work quietly on your jigsaw.

A 500 piece jigsaw takes a while to do, but not too long.

This one was completed by Mr 14.

An up close of the tiger.

Thanks for visiting. :o)
