A Montessori Pack for the Letter Aa

Today I wanted to share my Montessori Pack for the Letter Aa.

I don't know if I'll make any more, but we'll see.

In the mean time I thought that it might be of some use to you if you are:

teaching the letter Aa,
or numbers to 12,
or doing an apple theme,
or ant theme.

It comes with an anchor chart.

Some 3 part cards in color.

The same 3 part cards in black and white to save your ink.

Some mini books for the children to practice writing.

Some counting cards.

Cards with no numbers, so you could match them up to the set before.

And there's an apple set too.
It's 30 pages.
Enjoy!

Interactive Ant Lapbook

Well, the week is moving along nicely and productively.

I've just finished making this little resource for when we hit up Ants.

A cover for our lapbook.

When you first open it up you have the flaps on either side and the passage on the first left hand insert.  The insert is cut to 8 inches, which is just a smidge thinner than your normal A4 size so that it will fit nicely inside.  I taped it to the left hand side flap in the crease so it just looks like an added page.

I chose these 4 words for vocabulary.  Who knew they molted along the way?  Or regurgitate their food to feed the young?  I've included cut and paste options for the vocabulary as well.

It's always a good idea to do some comparisons and contrasting - how are ants and spiders alike, how are they not alike, and how are they the same?

When you turn the passage over the underside has the cloze.  I also included a higher leveled cloze for older children in the file as well.  The pockets are on the underside of the label the ant activity.

What the lapbook looks like once you open it up entirely.  As you can see there is a middle lift up insert as well.

On top of the lift up third insert is the life cycle with cut and paste options available to glue in.

In the center we have the writing activity.  There is a copywork option available if your little is not up to composing their own sentences yet.  I have also included a higher leveled writing paper set for older children in the file. It's super cute because I added some more clipart to it.

This is the underside of the lift up insert in the middle.  Just draw the inside of your ant nest.  Always a fun activity.

The pockets all together.

The little books that go in the pockets.

Labeling the ant activity.  Cut and paste if the child is not up to writing them all out by hand.

So yeah, I am really happy with the formats of these lapbooks that I am looking to add a whole stack of different ones as we go along.  It's awesome that Charlotte is only 5 and I've got the next couple of years to do a whole stack.  Oh, and don't forget Noah - he's 2.5 already so they'll be great for him too when he starts school.

At any rate, if you're interested in this download I have it in my store { discounted actually } for a bargain $2.

It won't stay that way forever though - eventually I'll have to put it up to it's real price of $4.

Click HERE to go check it out in the store.

Thanks so much for visiting.

Writing with the Really Littles

I've been doing most of our writing with Chloe - 8, but today I wanted to try out some group writing with the 6 and 4 year olds.  { They have been pretty much restricted to copywork and workbook stuff, so it made a nice change for them. }

We started with me reading this book:

Then I did a little MIND MAP with them.

From that I asked each girl to give me a sentence for our writing.

Phebe's { 6 } writing:

Hannah's { 4 } writing:

I really like how the worksheets walk the children through one step at a time, one fact at a time.  It makes the writing process a bit more easier.  These are draft pages, so once the information is there they could copy it over to another page without all the prompts.

I'll be offering these worksheets in a new 365 Days pack on Ants tomorrow.

Additionally I'll be re-opening up a new tab to house the links to all the other { older } 365 Days packs too.  I really like these for quick writing when the children are really little, and with that in mind I want to add quite a number of new ones { in the updated and expanded format } as well.

One last thought, I am also wondering if it would be beneficial in making an Ant Day Pack { a different type of pack series that I have }.

Just thoughts......

Ants, Ants, Ants

I'm starting to think that Chloe's not really ready for the ordinary lined paper.  Perhaps she might just need a little more time with the junior lined papers instead.  It's clear that she is finding it difficult to write neatly. We'll experiment with it next week.  In the mean time, this is how her essay for the week turned out:

She read from this book to help her get some extra information and ideas about ants.

Additionally we'll now make it a 4 day project.  Day 1, Read.  Day 2, Narrate.  Days 3 and 4 for the copywork portion.  Hoping that by dividing the writing between two days will produce some added neatness as well.

Ants

Today I decided that we really needed to get back to doing some more work on that Ant theme.

So we all 4 of us snuggled up while I read this book.

The girls were really interested in the book.  They love PICTURE books.

Then I pulled out some printables that I got off the internet.

I picked up these worksheets from Erica Bohrer.  Just click HERE if you want to go visit her blog and have a look at her Ant theme.

If you'd like to grab a copy of these free worksheets from Erica - click HERE.  This link will take you to these particular freebies that she has there.

And no Ant theme is quite complete unless you make little ants and paint them, right?

And Ta Da - voila~!!  And in no time at all 3 little ants were created.

The girls chose to do them in pink and purple.  I guess they didn't think that the ants needed to be black?

The girls also used a circle punch to make these little ants.

At least the girls know a little more about ants now.  I don't think much more, but a little more.

Ants

Guess what our latest theme work is on?

ANTS~!!

The girls really loved this book, they were hunched over me clinging to the whole story.

And we also got to read this book.  I just love the illustrations.  Beautiful and simple.

I can't wait until we do some more work on our current theme.
