Homeschool Mothers Journal

In my life this week…

A lot of the same old stuff has been happening.  Mostly housework, school, and general living.  Nothing super out of the ordinary.

Oh, I did have a morning tea at my place on Thursday.  We made personalized journal books for the book of John.  I made my own notebook pages, printed them out, bound them, and hand stamped them throughout.

In our homeschool this week…

I got an AWESOME bargin at Hardly Normal ( Harvey Norman ).  I managed to pick up a couple of Exam Creators for $5.00 each.  I got a grade 9 and a grade 10 set.  I really like the look of them.  I hope that we can use them somewhere along the line.

Hannah ( Miss 3 ) learnt to click with the computer mouse.  This in turn has opened up a whole new world for her via the computer.

Phebe ( Miss 5 ) is still keeping pace.  This week she learnt about silent e.   I am pretty happy about the speed at which she has been catching things.  For extra reading practice I made these cards with the silent e for fun.  I'm going to add some more later on for /i/ and /u/.

Chloe ( Miss 7 ) has given me a real run for my money this week.  I think the only thing that she liked was painting.  Nuff said.

Caleb ( Mr 15 ) got a year older.  He also decided that he was going to slack off again for another week.  Good thing I have leverage.  He's not going on the next white mountain excursion unless he is up to date with his school work.  Ha ha ha ha ha.

Daniel ( Mr 16 ) did an awesome job of staying up to date.  Odd I know.  Normally he is the one who can't keep up to date.

This week I found a FREE Froggy Pirate clip chart.  I thought it was super cute.

Sometimes I must take my own advice.  The workbook is made for man, not man for the workbook.

I am inspired by…

Beautiful, clean, and organized things.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

People I saw in real life:  Joanne and Chris - who both came over for morning tea.

My favorite thing this week was…

Finding the froggy pirate clip chart.   Sad, hay.   Next week I will try my very best to find a happy moment with my children.

What’s working/not working for us…

Working:  Sending the baby to sleep out in the lounge room with dad.  This is so that she can stop feeding on me in the middle of the night, and so that I can get some real sleep.  And it's working.  Yay~!!

Questions/thoughts I have…

Thought:  Stairs.  I have a thing for stairs.  I don't like climbing them, but I LOVE seeing them.  They do something to me spiritually.

Things I’m working on…

Blogging.

I’m reading…

This week I read The Little Red Hen ( a FEW times ).

I’m cooking…

As little as possible.

I’m grateful for…

The extra sleep I've had this week.

Friendships that encourage.  I've had a few ladies extend their friendship this week and it has really encouraged me.

I’m praying for…

My daughter to be able to look for a house and move out.

Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

My gorgeous little baby Charlotte turned 10 months old.  She's also turned into a bit of a chatter box.  She loves to vocalize.  ps.  She's also a speed crawler.

I got to feel my FIRST earthquake this week.

I didn't get to go up the hill this week because the new car had a serious leak and had to go back to the mechanics. It's fixed now though.

However, the boys went up though, and here is an 8 min video of it.  This is the first ski of the season for our family.  Daniel is in the green, Caleb is in the blue, and Adrian ( hubby ) is the one filming and skiing at the same time.

In our homeschool this week…

We had an awesome week OFF school.  I really made the most of it too by having as much slackness as I could tolerate before I needed to do something.  Had a few days where I even skipped doing the washing as well. Now that's pretty unheard of.  LOL

Pinterest has a LOT of cool ideas on there.

I am inspired by…

The boys all skiing.  They made it look easy and fun.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Shopping.

My favorite thing this week was…

Finishing a new little workbook on beginning sounds.  I am currently having a little giveaway with it, feel free to enter - I think it still has one more day to go.  Just click on the sample to go to that page.

What’s working/not working for us…

Sending the girls to bed at a reasonable hour so that I can have some quiet time IS definitely working.

Questions/thoughts I have…

Hoping that I can learn to ski this season.

Things I’m working on…

Character notebooking pages.  I'll be sharing the first set on my blog tomorrow.  Stop by for a great FREEBIE.

I’m reading…

Bible devotional books.

I’m cooking…

Beef Wellingtons today.  Bread and Butter pudding earlier in the week.

I’m grateful for…

The freedom to be a stay at home mum.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

We finally organized to purchase a second car so that we can ALL go out together.  We need 11 seats.  It wasn't the type of car that we had originally hoped for, but it will do the job, which we are very grateful for.  Hubby and I will pick it up on the weekend.  We also have 2 car seats on lay-by, and I think they will be getting picked up super soon.   The little grand babies will be excited about that.  So all good there as well.   It's been 11 weeks that we HAVEN'T been able to go out as a family.  Except the 2 times when we used a taxi.

The washing machine died.  Yep, my beloved 9.5 kilo washer decided it was time to call it quits.  The repair man came on Wednesday.  As it turns out he found a burnt out wire.   I knew that I used the machine a lot, but that much?  LOL    In the mean time did you know that laundromats cost a LOT of money?

In our homeschool this week…

Chloe finished her English 202 module.  She only scored 80% for it though.  School is challenging for her.   Her favorite thing this week I think was painting.

Phebe finished her first English module and scored 96%.  So I was really happy with that.  She also finished off her Learn To Read module ( 105 ) and did very well with that too.

Hannah continued to color and play.  I have noticed that she has taken a KEEN interest in school activities and is desperate to participate.  She throws a little tantrum if I don't get her school WORK when the other girls are doing theirs.

We have now begun our week off school.  I REALLY need a break.  Feeling a little burnt out with all that's been on my plate.

Oh, and I also bought some paint for the school room.

It's OK to miss the odd lesson in a workbook.

I am inspired by…

This week I've been getting little inspiring ideas as I travel through blogdom and pinterest.  I'm just a little scared that this may be my only answer for a LONG while.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Today I am off to have myself fitted for skii's and boots in preparation for the snow season.  Hoping that I can actually learn to ski this time.  Last year I was too pregnant to go skiing.  The year before that I was 10kg's heavier.  Either way, hoping that it goes well THIS season. My daughter is also going to try skiing for the first time EVER in her life this season.  I hope she likes it and does well with it.

My favorite thing this week was…

Quiet time.  Silence is golden.  It really is.  Especially when you're tired.

What’s working/not working for us…

Sleep has NOT been working for us.  Charlotte has been quite ill this week with a cold and fever.  The fever passed pretty quickly but the blocked nose cold decided to give us a run for our money. She's been very fussy with foods and needing to be picked up a LOT.   So that's NOT working for me.  My sleep has been been really messed up.  I know it's bad when I hear her wake up and put my hand out to comfort her and think - her leg is broken, it's completely turned the other way.  I was absolutely PANIC stricken.   It wasn't though, she had just rolled over in the bed.   But yeah, that's how messed up my sleeping has been.

Things I’m working on…

Yesterday I wrote up the next 8 weeks program for school for 4 children.  This time I added a purple cover and some cute little patterned paper on the front.  Now while I didn't program for Hannah, I have been sorting things into files for her - so that she'll have things to do when school is on.

Today I am hoping to get the next 8 weeks worth of history notebooking pages done so that I don't have to worry about them when we get back to school.  It'll be nice just to be able to pull them out of the drawer ready to go on the days that we need them.

I’m reading…

I started a new book on Ferdinand Magellan this week.  I've also been reading a lot of blogs.

I’m cooking…

Today I am aiming for a crock-pot chicken a la whatever I can throw in there with that.

I’m grateful for…

Quiet time.

I’m praying for…

The simple things and thank you's for what God has done for us.

Hannah, Phebe, and Chloe.  This was taken on the day that we bought Hannah and Chloe their new snow gear.  I gave Chloe my old hat, it seemed to match really well.

I hope you will join us this week with the Homeschooling Mothers Journal.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

I remain with my roller coaster life.  Lots of ups and downs as we continue to integrate my daughter and my grandsons.

Hubby bought a new clock to help get us ALL up early, so we can get the school day done at a reasonable time.

In our homeschool this week…

Chloe has begun double digit subtraction with borrowing.
Phebe is doing awesome with Grade 1 English ( first module ).
Hannah has been doing a lot of coloring, cuting and pasting.  She keeps asking for "school work".

During the week I've been doing other posts about school printables and resources.  On Monday I did a make-over on some plastic boxes.  Tuesday I did a show and tell with a couple of phonogram books that I've written.  Wednesday saw me posting about making my own pocket chart.  Thursday I shared about a favorite resource for multiple phonograms.  Then I did a second post to talk about Phebe starting Grade 1 English.  Friday I did a continuation on my pocket charts and a printable calendar for them.

I am inspired by…

All the really creative teachers that I've been meeting on their blogs.  I have been getting heaps of ideas from Pinterest too.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Yesterday we dropped into a local ski rental shop to get prices.

My favorite thing this week was…

Blogging.  I have seriously got to get out more.  Blogging?  That's my favorite thing this week?

What’s working/not working for us…

Mornings haven't been working for us.   For some reason everyone has been slowly getting up later and later.   This in turn has made starting school later each day.  Then of course finishing later.  I'm over late.  Really over late.

Questions/thoughts I have…

I continue to think about God.  Where He fits in.  Where we fit in - in Him.

Things I’m working on…

More blogging.

I’m reading…

Well, we actually just finished Christopher Columbus and Sons TODAY.  Now that was an awesome book.  Highly recommended.  I will do a post about it next week some time.

I’m cooking…

A lot of shepherds pies lately.  Everyone is loving them.  Nice and gravy.

I’m grateful for…

A man that sticks by me even though I'm as wishy washy as a wave in the ocean.

I’m praying for…

Salvation for the children.  Spiritual things.
