Week 26

I'm back and refreshed from my holiday over to the other side of Australia.  I went to see my oldest boy for 8 days + 2 travel days.   We also weaned Noah, who stayed home with daddy - I think it was perfect timing.

Today I tried out making sour dough bread in a bag and here is the result:

The most success I've had with bread making, so I'm super happy with that.  It was also the EASIEST to do as well - so I'll definitely be doing re-runs and experiments with different types now in the future.

This week we are still doing the Robinson Curriculum and rather than just give you a chart of what the girls are reading I thought I'd give you a visual instead.

Chloe { 11 }:

Saxon as usual - one lesson a day.

And I swapped the writing portion out for this textbook usage this week.

Just laying the foundations for Shakespeare with Tales from Shakespeare { Lambs }.

This book is huge, and has the complete collection.

Another huge book.  I've slipped it in under my science tab.  Just two chapters a week at this point, but we can always change it up as we go.

Yes, even text books can be used as readers - just do all the reading without having to exhaust yourself with all the busy work.  :o)

And then a couple of times a week do a country as well:

For fun we're also including this as well, this week.

And this gorgeous collectable old time book as well.

And I think that  is pretty much what Chloe will be reading / doing this week.

Ok, let's move onto Phebe { 9 }

Saxon Math as usual { sorry no photo today }

And the writing was swapped out for this:

I just love OLD books.

From the RC list.

Good social studies reading.

From the RC list { Henty }

For science reading:

Hannah { 7 }

Saxon

And like the other girls, I swapped Hannah's writing out for work from this book as well.

I have a heap of illustrated classics - not considered RC by any means, however I like them, so we use them.  :o)

Another children's Bible - I can't even tell you how many different children's bibles we keep, it's probably criminal and very greedy, but it makes it super easy to keep re-visiting those stories with slight variations.

Another old time GEM I managed to score along the way - Great Events and Famous People.

Today she read about the Boston Tea Party.  Tomorrow it is Paul Revere's Ride by Longfellow, yes, Longfellow - at the precocious and tender age of 7.  That is what RC does for you.  It doesn't hold you up till your old and grey - oh no sir it does not, in fact, it does the opposite, it opens the world like a rare and beautiful flower and let's you taste the honey before the bees make off with it.

And boring science - for the time being.  ha!

Thanks for visiting!!

Week 19

Mothers Day this year was probably the best one I've ever had.  Normally we just skip on by without much of a do, but the girls wanted to spoil me, so we let them.

This week I purchased a couple of new items to help break up the monotony.

The first one was a Grade 5 Reading Daily Warm Ups.  Each page comes with a reading passage and some comprehension questions.  I don't use it like it's intended though.  What we do with them is for the child to read the passage and outline it.   At some point we will also extend that to re-writing the passage from the child's outline once we're comfortable with the level.

The book has 150 passages, fiction and non-fiction with a multitude of different types of reading.  It retails $18.99 on TpT.  Just click the cover if you want to go and find out a little more.

Daily Warm-Ups: Reading, Grade 5

Another book I purchased was the Grade 5 Science Daily Warm Ups.  Again, this has 150 pages of worksheet or activity based work.  I really like the daily warm ups because it doesn't make the children sit there for yonks to learn a new concept.  I like the idea of introducing new concepts in a brief manner.  This also retails at $18.99 on TpT.  Just click the cover if you want to go and find out a little more.

Daily Warm-Ups: Science Grade 5 (eBook)

Something I also bought was another pack in this particular paragraph writing series.  If you need a break from intensive instruction or want a handy dandy walk through, this is certainly very handy to have.  I like to offer them out on occasion to help break up the monotony.  I particularly like that it step by step, line upon line.  It gives the child a clear path and direction in which to write.

Perfect Paragraphs One Step at a Time: April Edition

In school this week Charlotte worked on this:

Math

And randoms. { cvc a }

We also got two new phonograms to add to her flash card pile.

The big girls worked on MOH II and their Wordly Wise 5 book.

And here's one of those outlines based on a passage from the new Grade 5 Reading Daily Warm Ups.  The idea is to outline well, enough to make it possible to write their own passage.

A bible coloring page.

Saxon Time.  We've up the ante with this one.  If you get a pink slip, it's got to be fixed on the day, no more dragging lessons out over two days now.

Week 15

This week Hannah started Saxon 6/5.  Yep.  We've been following the Robinson Curriculum method of using Saxon for mastery and wow, can I just tell you how impressed I am with the results.  Amazing.  By the way, it's made amazing by the fact that Hannah is only 6 { although she will be 7 in a couple of weeks }.

These days she does a lesson a day.  She hasn't had to re-do any lessons yet { she scores too high - like in the 90's }.  Then in the afternoons for FUN and POCKET MONEY I let her do a few CTC Maths online lessons.  Yesterday alone set me back 50 cents - that's 5 lessons.When I first started paying them for the online lessons I thought 20 cents a lesson would be ok, but I had to drop it because of the amount of lessons they wanted to do.

Week 14

This week Chloe started a new English workbook.  I did start her below her grade level when we first started using this series, but she is doing great in the catch up department.

Some Bible time:

Noah continues to grow.

Vocabulary was also on the books this week as well.

Looks like we had a slack week, but yeah, nah, we still got on with the work.

Anyway, this week I'll be linking up with:

I hope you will join us.
