Starting Grade 2 Maths

Hannah has now graduated from Grade 1 to Grade 2 Maths.

Here's one of her new lessons.  It starts off with some easy revision. 

 I think we may be finally going to start slowing down now.  That would be good, as I think we need to go back to spending more time in the reading department.  :o)

Grade 3 Maths Upate

Ok everyone, super busy today.  I only have 15 mins to put this blog post together before I have to jump to the next subject.  Can I do it?

Well, we've just finished our two week break away from school and have now resumed school again today.  We're up to week 25. The year is moving so quickly.    

For today's show and tell I just want to pop in and share what Chloe { 8 } is up to with her Maths.

Rod and Staff lesson 93.  It is certainly proving to be quite challenging at places - time table knowledge is a MUST.

Just as well we are seriously working on skip counting / timetables.  She actually ended up doing this page first when she saw what was required in her maths workbook.  That way she had some reference material to help her through.

Additionally, she also started work from this book this morning as well.  It's a blackline master from RIC Publications and was in the bundle that I got last week.

They have teacher helps { handouts } in the front.  So I gave Chloe a couple of pages for her "space" strand.  Then we started on the first worksheet.

All up, she spent just a fraction over an hour on Maths this morning.

Sing and Play

This week I added some very awesome and super cool new educational resources to my fun little blackline masters collection. I was totally happy impressed with how quickly RIC Publications dispatched my order this week too. Awesome~!!   I placed my order on Sunday night and by Wednesday afternoon I had my package of goodies sitting on my school table ready for enjoyment. They came all the way from the other side of Australia.  

Today I'll just show you one of the new books that I got.  :o)  You'll have to wait to see and hear about the others.  This one is very specifically for Charlotte - nearly 2, but I think Hannah - 4 is also going to get a lot out of it too.

{ Nursery Rhymes - Sing and Play }

There are 25 sing and play nursery rhymes in this particular book.  Each rhyme has 4 pages dedicated to it.  In the back of the book is a list of illustrated flashcards for photocopying, one for each rhyme.  Total pages:  114. 

Each nursery rhyme follows a set pattern like this:  The first page has the music and ideas to do with the rhyme.  { Yep, I actually got to play this little tune on the keyboard - ha ha ha, and yep, totally impressed myself with that.  I do have to give a bit of credit to Adventus for that though }  The second page is a reproducible of the rhyme illustrated, so that the children can sing and colour.

The very first nursery rhyme is 'Open, Shut them'.  A simple hand singalong.

On the third page they give "cut and craft" instructions.  Then on the 4th page there is a reproducible craft activity.

After introducing the nursery rhyme I got out the craft activity.  After coloring for a short while we then cut out the pieces and taped the face to the top of a paper plate.

And the mouth to the inside.  Yeah, I never knew teeth came in purple and blue, but there you have it, apparently they do.  :o)  I think they look way better than the standard white.

3 of the 4 crafts that got done.  Chloe was a bit late to it all.  I guess she had to see what was going on before she wanted to join in.

I stuck Charlottes copy of the rhyme in an exercise book.  That way we'll be able to revisit the rhymes as we go along, and it'll turn into quite a nice little song book by the end of it all as well.

Have you ever heard of RIC Publications?  They're an Australian educational company.  I can't wait to do some more show and tell from this company.

Science - Grade 1

Recently I had both Chloe and Phebe doing grade 3 science together.

But then I had a good think about that, and decided that it would be much better to team up Phebe and Hannah with grade 1 science instead.

So - when school resumes on Monday - they'll be doing this:

I figured that it would make life easier in the science department.

So, I've got some already printed and good to go:

I've got 3 modules printed for each.  Phebe in the red covers, Hannah in the blue covers.

A sample page of what's inside.  They keep it pretty simple.  Not a lot of writing either, so I really like that, and I am sure that the girls will really like it too.

In all seriousness, can't wait for Monday, full stop.

Jonah Died

Ok, let's get one thing straight.  Jonah died.

Yes, he did.  Dead as they come.

I am so very tired of hearing grown MEN declare how Jonah did not die.  I am also exhausted from seeing the shock and defense on their faces if you dare to care to mention that he really did die.

What is it with grown men that can't get passed a little childhood brainwashing?  Are they that chlorine in the water defective?

Never mind how for the life of us Jonah could actually stay alive in the belly of a fish { whale } for 3 days and 3 nights, especially since just mere fish are devoured and dissolved in the natural process, but that my friends is a scientific proof that Jonah most certainly did die, and a given.

Today though, I want to prove it to you from the Bible.  Which would be some benefit to you - if nothing else but to secure that the Bible has all the answers.  We just have to find them.

Matthew 12

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jonah was in the belly of the whale for 3 days and 3 nights.  Don't suppose he had a ton of air with oxygen with him too.  Either that he was pretty good at holding his breath.

Seriously though, 

Now, Jesus died, and went down into the belly of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights before he was resurrected.

That means he really died.  He LEFT his body.

Likewise, Jonah died and left his body too.

But you still might not believe me that he died so I thought I'd add this in here as well:

2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

Yeah, so you MEN read your bible, real closely.  Don't get up to PREACH until you have.
