First I downloaded, printed, and stapled the book together.  You will need a color printer for the apples at the end of the book.

If you don't have a color printer or didn't want to use the apples then the child could just color their way through the book.  There is a page of apples with no color included in the back of the book as well, just in case, so all your bases are covered.

I also pulled out one of my scrapbooking circle punches to make things a little quicker and easier.

On page 2 of the book Sue also gives some directions for use.

My little assistant was Phebe ( Miss 5 ). 

She LOVED punching out the little apples.

 

 

A quick shot before Phebe got carried away with her work.  The counting starts at Making 3, but I'll just show you from 6 onwards.

One of the great things about this workbook is how easy and appealing it made counting and doing sums.  You know you are on a winner when your child ASKS to do maths~!!  :o) 

Making 7.   The sums are clearly set out.

Making 9.  There isn't any over crowding on the page either.  Which was great.

I think that is good because the child can focus without a mess or distractions on the page.

Making 10.  



As the book progresses more sums can be made with each number.  So by the end of the book there are 3 pages/worksheets for making 10. 

Phebe says that she "loved it very much~!!"

It has been the highlight of our Kindergarten / Grade 1 Maths world these last couple of weeks.   Something different than what she is normally used to.

Something else that we did this week - that I have seen quite a bit of from over at Homeschool Creations and Hubbards Cupboard was reconstucting memory verses.

I would of used theirs except that I don't think they use the KJV.

At any rate, I made my FIRST copycat version of what they do for us at home.

 

I made a "phrase" version, which we could use to help get used to doing these memory verse reconstructions.

 

 

And then the real deal.

 

 

Oh and hay, did you noticed I used my HOME MADE pocket chart?  Cool, hay?

I know a lot of people don't mind the NIV and other versions, but if you like the KJV, perhaps I should share and make more of these?  What do you think?

Palooza Print Up

Catch Up Friday

 

 

Ok, I  *think*  this might be the last of the apple stuff.  

 

As it turned out I had a little cherry stamp and a leaves stamp, so we put them to good use with making an apple tree.

 

 

 

 

The toilet rolls I collected also came handy.

The weather has been lovely and warm this week.

 

 

 

 

I just love the beautiful blooms that come with this tree.

 

 

 

 

Hannah ( 3y6m ) still continued to work on her multiple phonograms.   This week I gave her another 6 phonograms to learn and she has been doing very well.

 

 

 

 

I've got a favourite BLM that I often use.  But because Hannah is just starting out with writing I photocopied her pages bigger than the normal A4 size.  So half is on the first page, and the other half is on the next page.

 

 

 

I'm pretty impressed with her ability.  Makes for a nice surprise and encouragement.

 



 

 

Don't suppose you remember the single phonogram workbook version of the following?   Well, this is out of the multiple phonogram workbook that I have.   I am hoping to have that posted sooner than later. 

 

I'm not sure why Hannah hasn't attempted to write her OWN on the last part of each line.  Perhaps I will encourage her to do that from now on with the next lot of sounds.

Multiple Phonogram Word Sorts

Do you remember my Apple unit that had the multiple phonogram word sort in there?

Well, I tweaked it, and worked on it, and now it is a 38 page book. 35 of those pages are for printing and using in your lessons.

I ended up with 10 sort boards, each board has 3 sounds on it.

I also added a second level of work. This is where I colored the

focus phonogram red.

Check out these samples.
 

The cover page.  A little bit similar to the Apple one.  I laminated mine to go on the cover of my file folder.  That's where I store all my worksheets that we are going to use.
 

And I kept these - and continued to make 4 more SETS of them.  So I got a total of 30 sounds/apples.

I also kept this, and I ended up with 10 sort boards~!!  Yep, and each board has 3 different sounds on it.  That's a lot of phonograms to look at.  :o)

And this is where things got changed up a little.

I decided that I should only provide the words for each individual board.   This meant that I could get two copies of the words on the same page.  That would work well if you needed multiple copies in a classroom.  :o)

 

Then I added a lower level version of the words.  When I say lower level, I just mean that I made the focus phonogram red to make it EASIER for the child to work out where the word should go.

Yeah, so there you have it.  That's how it all came out.

Here is one of the worksheets done by the older girls.

I spent a week occasionally reviewing 6 phonograms ( with Hannah ) which I had made into little stick puppets.

She thought this was heaps fun, and it only took like a minute each time too.  Super easy.  Super quick.  Super efficacious.

And at the end of the week I gave Hannah one of these worksheets, with which she did without any problems at all.

And just in case you are curious,

This book is over in my TpT store for only $1.50.  Do you think that is a fair price?   It's just that I often see files with LESS pages for quite a LOT more money on them.  So I wonder if I am undervaluing my work?

Apple Almost Finale

And before the week was out my 3 year old knew all 6 sounds.  I kid you not.

 

 

Apple Writing

With the older girls we had a little chat about how to make sentences.
 

 

 

 

Then we quickly did a little, and I mean little writing.

 

 

 

This is how the Phonogram Sort from my Apples unit thingy majingy turned out.

 

 

 

And as a spin off Hannah did a few of these ( for the 6 phonograms on the apples ).  3 of them got a cut and paste job, and the other 3 just got colored in.
