Grade 3 Maths

 

When school resumes Chloe will be doing Grade 3 Maths.

 

Her main book will be:

 

Please don't GASP when I tell you that I am going to let her use the textbook like a workbook.  Yep, I am letting her write in it.  :o)

 

I've even let her have a couple of practice pages for fun.



I am letting her use it like a workbook so that she can focus on doing the work instead of wasting valuable time copying the work out.  She finds Mathematics to be a challenging subject and I just felt that this would benefit her greatly.

 

Even though the book is supposed to be non-consumable, the price for it is equivalent to or even better than a lot of consumable workbooks.  So that makes it even more inviting to use it just like a workbook.   The book is also HARD bound, an added bonus.  :o)

 

Chloe will also have Singapore Grade 2 to help fill in some holes and give her some additional practice.  I am thinking that it will help encourage her if she can have a bit more success in this department.

 

Yeah, so that is Grade 3 Maths in our house.  How about yours?

Base 10 and Tens and Ones

 

Today I made a little Base 10 / Tens and Ones center for the girls to practice their base 10 and Tens and Ones.

 

Phebe had a HEAP of fun trying it out for me.  She is going to be my little maths girl~!!

 

 

 

Some children are wired for language, and some for math.  Well, our little Phebe is really showing her strength with Math.  :o)

 

Right, back to the center.

 

It's makes 24 cards.  Which I thought was a good size for a center.

 

Twelve cards are for the Base 10,

 

 

and 12 are for the Tens and Ones.

 

I also added a recording worksheet.

Progress with Print size

 

Here's how we've been doing our word families of late.  I made a set with bigger lines to accomodate my 3y8m old,

 

and I thought she was doing a pretty good job.

However I noticed that she wasn't filling up the whole space for the letters that were provided. This lead me to believe that she could write on a smaller set of lines.  So this morning little Miss Hannah tried out a smaller set of lines for her word families.  :o)

 

Wow, was I was super impressed~!!

 

Just had to share.  :o)





Reading in December

 

What are you reading this December?

 

Amongst other things I have recently begun to read this to the girlies - who oddly enough are thoroughly enjoying it~!!  So I shall be continuing while I have their interest and encouragement.

 

 

It's quite a book, and I imagine it may actually take us more than the month to wade through it.

Character Decisiveness

 

I've been very distracted and considerably sidetracked with doing a lot of other things these last few weeks, but today I have another addition for your character folders.  :o)

A Can of Flowers - Phonogram Apples

I was changing over the letter tiles in Hannahs current word box to reflect her new set of words and was wondering where to put all her apple phonograms.   They were in the box taking up considerable room.
 

Then I got the idea of putting them in a little tin can.  That way they would be available for easy access for revisional purposes as we went along.
 

So, I went and found me a tin can.  Just a little one.  A baby one that had the potential to live a long and fruitful life.
 

I often keep a small stash of cans on a shelf in my school room - just in case I want them for one thing or another.  I never used to hoard junk but with older age I have found that they are easily turned into some sort of treasure.

I picked out a cute little owl patterned paper and used my guillotine to cut it to size.  Then I used my super power - double sided tape to adhere it to the can.
 

And voila~!!  She was born.

I popped our apple phonograms in and they sat so pretty.

A little bit like a rainbow or a field of flowers.

And here they will blossom until we use them again.
