Yep, More Consonant Blends

 

Phebe and I are still working on Consonant Blends.  Her for school, and me for my TpT store.  It's great when everything works together at the right time.


I hope you don't mind me sharing my excitement over getting some more of these sets done.
 

 

I have now completed sets 4, 5, and 6.  They all have the "Detective Froggies" theme.


Each packet comes with a cover page.

A collective word bank.  It's always handy to know what words are being used in the packet.

 

There are 2 worksheets like this in each packet.

 

And there are 3 cards like this in each packet too for making words with the blends.

And there are 4 recording worksheets for writing down the words that get made.  This sample is the last worksheet where I combine all three sounds.  It just depends on the competency of the child as to which worksheet you give them.

Ants

 

Today I decided that we really needed to get back to doing some more work on that Ant theme.

 

So we all 4 of us snuggled up while I read this book.

 

 

 

 

The girls were really interested in the book.  They love PICTURE books.

Then I pulled out some printables that I got off the internet.

 

 

 

 

I picked up these worksheets from Erica Bohrer.  Just click HERE if you want to go visit her blog and have a look at her Ant theme.

And no Ant theme is quite complete unless you make little ants and paint them, right?

 

 

 

 



 

And Ta Da - voila~!!  And in no time at all 3 little ants were created.

 

 

 

 

The girls chose to do them in pink and purple.  I guess they didn't think that the ants needed to be black?

 

 

 

 

The girls also used a circle punch to make these little ants.

 

 

 

 

 

 



At least the girls know a little more about ants now.  I don't think much more, but a little more.
 

Weekend Project - Self Watering Garden

 

This post is going to be a little out of the ordinary since it's not technically school related.  It's not even paper related either.  Can you imagine that?  But it still comes under "learning", as in real life learning.

 

This weekend hubby and I - mostly hubby, built a couple of 'rain gutter' gardens.  We didn't end up using rain gutters, but the concept was there.  We ended up with something much better.  Something that will minimise water loss.

 

We made a SELF WATERING garden.

 

Imagine having a garden that rocket grew everything and all you had to do was collect the produce off it?  Well, that's almost what we have.

 

But first - we had to build it.

 

Basically hubby took a poly pipe and two big pieces of wood and a heap of buckets.  We got the buckets for free by visiting shops that didn't need them once they'd used up whatever was in them. 

 

 

 

Hubby drilled a hold in the bottom of all the buckets.

 

 

 

 

Then we stuck little baskets through.  They sit nice and snug in there as the lip of the basket holds on.

 

 

 

 

Then hubby started drilling holes in the poly pipe for the baskets to sit over.

 

 

 

 

This is what the poly pipe and wood looked like once all the holes were drilled in it.

 

 

 

 

A little up closer on those holes.

 

 

 

 

Then hubby attached the water hose,

 

 

 

 

and the float.  This way whenever the water level drops a little the hose will automatically fill it back up.  Cool hay?

 

 

 

 

How all the buckets look once they are put on the poly pipe.  The baskets are partly submerged in the water in the pipe.

 

 

 

Then we mixed a heap of potting mix and peat, and threw in some fertilizer too, and started planting our plants.

 

 

 

So now we sit back and wait for them to grow.  We'll put some liquid fertilizer in the water pipe in a couple of weeks or so.  That should help them along as well.

 

 

 

 

Then hubby went and made another row for me.  So we've got two rows going at the moment.

 

I hope to do more updates on our little garden project as it goes along.  So please check back every now and then under the 'Garden' category.

Today I'm going to share some work that Hannah ( 3y5m ) did this week.

 

Earlier in the week I was over visiting the Teeny Tiny Teacher . 

She's super funny, and whenever I need a teacher pick me up, I go there, well she's one of the blogs I go to.  I actually go to a number of blogs.  

You might get a little distracted and start reading while you are there. Then you might start laughing. Then you might read some more, then you might laugh some more. And then the whole day will be gone. But you will feel heaps better for it.

This week Kristin has a freebie for her Writing Assessment that she is sharing with everyone.  As soon as I saw the little puppy, and little Miss saw it over my shoulder, I knew we had to get a copy.

Tell Me Something Good

 

Today I'm linking up with Jennifer from Rowdy in First Grade.

 

 

 

 

 

My Something Good from school:

 

 

We only have 6 weeks of school left before we start our BIG holidays.   We've been going since January 2nd and now we are in the process of winding up and finishing things off.  We only have 5 more readings for History.  Then we can focus on getting the English and Maths finished up too.  This year I'm giving the children a full 8 weeks off.   All of November and December.  Can't wait. 

This morning I inlcluded some Brain ( Break ) Gym.  It was so cute to see my 3 and 5 year olds ( and the 2 and 1 year olds listening very closely ) trying to dance to the music.  Thank you Pinterest and Youtube~!!  Miss 7 is yet to be converted.  LOL 

 

 

 

My Something Good from home:

 

Today I went shopping with my 18 year old for some presents, clothes, and some storage drawers.  He has been visiting us for the last fortnight but he leaves tomorrow to head back home.  He lives ( and works ) on the other side of Australia with the grandparents.

 

At least he got to try out skiing while he was here.  So that was fun for him.
