Apple Maths

 

There are some really GREAT things out there on the internet~!!

 

I had an awesome time printing, laminating, and cutting things to get ready for this weeks Apple Maths.

 

These Apple cards came from Alison at Oopseydaisy. She has a whole packet that can be downloaded off the net - yep, for FREE.

 

 

 

 

So we got out the pegs for Hannah to count and peg.  She thought it was great fun.

 

 

 

 

After Hannah had her play with it, Miss Phebe had her turn, but instead of using pegs she just ordered them.

 

 

 

 

This next lot of printables came from Amy Lattin in her FREE Apple Number Puzzle download.

 

So Hannah tried out counting 1 - 5.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then Chloe also did some for her 10's and 5's.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The girls are really enjoying this theme so far.  I expect that their enthusiasm will last until I say it's time to do some writing.  But that's the way things go.

Apple Crafts

We started our Apple theme this week with some good old fashioned crafts.
 

We tried a paper piecing of an apple.
 

We did a paper plate apple.

We even tried real apple painted prints.

It started out great.   I had high hopes that it would go off well.

But this 3rd activity  ...........  turned out to be a flop.   It was difficult for the girls to get good prints, and soon they got paint on the outside of the apple - which proved to be the end of it all as the skin became very slippery making it nigh impossible to get a print at all.

But the idea was there.

Tomorrow I'll show you some of the Maths ideas we did with the Apple theme.

Coloring for Medieval History

 

This year we did Medieval History, and here are the coloring books that we used for fun.

 

They come from Dover.

 

 

 

 

I love that they tell a story with the pictures.  It makes it good not only for coloring, but learning as well.

 

 

 

 

During the year I gave them the odd page or two, but now that we are nearing the end of our school year I just gave the girls the remaining books to color in at their leisure.  They aren't very expensive, so that is a bonus.

Apples - limited time FREEBIE

 

Yesterday I went on a search for materials for an apple theme.  I picked up some great ideas and worksheets along the way.   I also put a whole stack of them in their own album on Pinterest if you want to check that out too.

 

Then this morning I just thought that I'd add a little more to it, to personalize it for my own children.  Things that they can work on, for where they are.

 

I made a little cover page, which I laminated this morning and stuck on the front of a file folder.  That way I can keep all the printables etc.. ready in there waiting.

 

 

 

 

I added 3 different writing pages.   One for Kindergarten level, one for Grade 1 level, and one for Grade 2 level.  That is pretty much where Hannah, Phebe, and Chloe are respectively.

 

 

 

 

I also added a word sort for 6 multiple phonograms.

I've also put in a little game board - which I'm still developing in my mind as to how we will use it.

School Update

 

This week I had to go back to a tick list for Chloe.

 

Things are so hectic, chaotic, and demanding that I was getting totally frazzled with trying to juggle it all.   Having a lot of little itsy bitsy children at your feet really hinders being able to focus and get the school work done with the older children.

 

 

 

 

But I am a girl on a mission.

 

Very goal orientated.  Yes, I am.

 

We have now finished Mystery of History.   Yahoo~!!  Doing a happy dance. 

 

 

 

 

Then today we did lesson 142 in Maths, and there are only 170 lessons in the course - that means there are only 28 lessons to go.  Making progress people.  Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel?

 

 

 

 

We're going to up the Spelling a little more by focusing more on the syllabification.  So on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when she comes to do her copywork for her words she'll copy them like normal on the left hand side and then work on the syllabification on the right hand columns.  Hopefully this will see a marked improvement with her dictations.

 

Spelling is one of them "hard" things for Chloe as you can see with her pre-test here.

And then we can relax, think about next year, do some prep work, and just PLAY.
